What is fornix vagina?

The fornix vagina, also known as the vaginal fornix, is the upper part of the vagina that surrounds the cervix. It is divided into four distinct regions: anterior, posterior, left lateral, and right lateral fornices. The fornices provide a space for the penis during sexual intercourse and also serve as a reservoir for semen. They also help in the gynecological examination and the placement of contraceptive devices such as diaphragms and cervical caps. The fornix vagina is lined with mucous membranes, which produce lubrication during sexual arousal. It is important to note that the fornix vagina is sensitive and can be easily injured, so care should be taken during sexual activity to prevent discomfort or injury.
